Hand over what you bought, your energy bills and what you sold. Elefo works out the emissions behind every product you make, shows where each number came from, then lays out the cuts that take you to net zero, cheapest first, and removal certificates for the last tenth you can't cut. You decide what to carry out. Free and open source: you pay with anonymised data, never with money.
Three chapters, each building on the one before, and where they lead. The same four parts are the workbench's sidebar, so what you read here is what you find there.
The footprint of each product and of the whole business, with every number traceable to the invoice line, the figure used and where that figure was published. Two ways in: from your books, or modelled in detail by an expert.
Once the footprint is known, Elefo turns it into projects the business could carry out, each priced two ways: euros and tonnes of CO₂e a year. They sit on one chart, cheapest cuts on the left. Elefo proposes; you decide.
Some emissions stay after every sensible project: wheat still needs growing, bread still needs baking. For those, carbon certificates, each standing for a tonne removed from the air or kept out of it, checked by an independent body.
Where the three chapters take a business. Net zero, as the science-based standard defines it, is about nine tonnes in ten cut and only the last tenth taken back out of the air. Covering more than that with certificates makes a business carbon neutral for now, not net zero, and Elefo says which of the two it shows.
What makes the numbers better, what it costs, and why a number from Elefo can be trusted.
Most of a product's footprint is what its maker buys. When suppliers and customers are both on Elefo, real figures replace averages all the way down the chain, and you decide who sees what.
Put businesses on Elefo and watch a sandwich →Nothing in money. You pay with anonymised data, released only once five or more businesses stand behind a figure. Can't share? Keep it private. Or run the open-source software yourself.
The three ways to use it →AI suggests, people decide, and no AI is used in the calculation. Every figure opens to its source. No silent guesses. The same data gives the same answer years later. Your prices stay yours.
The seven promises →Elefo is built in the open. A table says where each part stands, from what a person can use today to what is only designed.
The status table →CO₂e, scope 1, 2 and 3, emission factor, CBAM, MACC, net zero against carbon neutral, estimate against final result: each in a sentence or two.
The glossary →The whole story in one clickable page, following a fictional bakery from its first invoice to net zero, with something to try at every step.
Read it from the top →In short. The status table in the guide has the detail, part by part.
